Cancer care requires a multidisciplinary approach in which dentists play an important yet often underappreciated role. Dentists in oncology centres contribute to the prevention, early detection, and management of oral complications related to cancer and its treatment. Pre-treatment dental evaluation helps eliminate sources of infection and reduce the risk of serious complications. During chemotherapy and radiotherapy, dentists manage conditions such as oral mucositis, xerostomia, infections, and pain, improving patient comfort and treatment compliance. Post-treatment care focuses on oral rehabilitation and long-term monitoring. Additionally, a maxillofacial prosthodontist further enhances patient rehabilitation through implant dentistry by restoring facial defects, oral function, aesthetics, and overall quality of life in cancer survivors. This talk emphasizes the need to spread awareness about this emerging specialty and its vital role in comprehensive oncology care.
