Success of complete dentures largely depends on accuracy of impression.Accurate impression needs a thorough understanding of anatomy, physiology of supporting structures, properties, and manipulation of materials. Initially tissues were recorded evenly irrespective of their anatomy to retain, support, and stabilize the dentures.It is not desirable to fabricate the complete denture directly in the patient´s mouth. Therefore, it is essential to obtain a cast which must be accurate replicas of the denture bearing area.Emphasis was given on the biologic factors affecting complete denture impression making i.e. on flanges, border molding and denture extensions. More attention was given to posterior palatal seal area and to esthetics. Based on the condition, dentist needs to select material and technique of impression for success of complete denture therapy. It is very important that the clinician selects an appropriate impression technique and materials to accomplish this task.
