2024 EFP Awardees Announced

Brussels, 20 June 2024. On the grounds of exceptional achievements and commitment to periodontology and periodontal science, the EFP (European Federation of Periodontology) announced its prestigious 2024 awards to four distinguished periodontists.

The EFP Eminence in Periodontology Award 2024 was conferred to former EFP president Dr. Anton Sculean, professor of Periodontology, University of Bern, Switzerland, and chair of the EFP's Project Committee, and congress chair of EuroPerio11 to take place in 2025 in Vienna.

The EFP Distinguished Scientist Award 2024 conferred to Dr. Nikolaos Donos, professor of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London, and chair of the EFP's education committee.

The EFP Distinguished Service Award 2024 was given to former EFP president and former chair of the EFP's post-graduate education committee Dr. Moshe Goldstein, professor of Periodontology, and director of postgraduate periodontology at the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center in Jerusalem.

The EFP International Eminence in Periodontology Award 2024 was for Dr. Mark Bartold, emeritus professor of Periodontics at the University of Adelaide, Australia.

These distinctions were announced at the EFP's general assembly in Zagreb, Croatia, last April.

During the same event, the winners of the Graduate Research Prize 2023 were also disclosed. This annual award seeks to promote original graduate research among the students of the 25 EFP accredited graduate programmes in periodontology around the world.

In the category of clinical research, the first prize went to the study on 'Marginal bone level changes around dental implants with one or two adjacent teeth - a clinical and radiographic retrospective study with a follow-up of at least 10 years', by Lucienne Weigel et al., from the School of Dental Medicine, at the University of Bern (published in Clinical Oral Implant Research)

The second clinical research prize was awarded to research on the 'Influence of systemic sclerosis on periodontal health: a case-control study' by Marianna Gavriiloglou et al., from the Faculty of Dental Surgery Robert Frank, at the University of Strasbourg, France (published in the Journal of Clinical Periodontology)

In pre-clinical and basic research, the first prize was won by “An in vitro study into three different PRF preparations for osteogenesis potential”, by Konstantinos Kosmidis et al., from the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA) in the Netherlands (published in the Journal of Periodontal Research)

Second prize went to the study on “Clinical and histologic evaluation of heterotopic mucosa transpositioning at teeth and dental implants” by Andrea Roccuzzo et al., from the School of Dental Medicine, University of Bern (published in Clinical Oral Implant Research)

"This year, the judging was rather difficult due to the exceptional quality of the submitted papers,” indicated Andreas Stavropoulos, chair of the EFP's scientific committee and coordinator of the jury. “The EFP takes great pride in backing the work of our postgraduate students and in the research produced within the framework of EFP[1]accredited postgraduate programmes."

EFP, promoting gum health for everybody

The EFP (European Federation of Periodontology, efp.org) is a global non-profit organisation with a European core that promotes periodontal science and practice, and awareness of gum health and gum disease among oral health professionals, other medical professionals, policymakers, and the public. EFP’s vision is “Periodontal health for a better life”.

Founded in 1991, the EFP brings together 43 national scientific periodontal societies, representing more than 18,000 oral health professionals and researchers in six continents. It leads the global conversation on periodontal science and guidelines , and pursues its mission by organising evidence-based scientific events and campaigns, including: EuroPerio, the world’s leading congress in periodontology and implant dentistry; Perio Master Clinic, a theme-based conference on hands-on periodontal practice; Perio Workshop, a high-level meeting shedding light on emerging issues; and Gum Health Day, a global awareness initiative celebrated on 12 May.

Furthermore, the EFP defines and promotes high-quality training in periodontology and implant dentistry on all three levels of professional education, from undergraduate training, postgraduate vocational education and training to its 24 accredited university programmes for specialist training.

The EFP works towards the pan-European recognition of periodontology as a dental specialty and is supported by industry partners, but has no commercial or professional agenda.

My name is Hailey Garcia and I am from New Jersey. My herpes virus turned to war after 2 years of living with it. I have tried different medical procedures to cure my herpes but to no avail. Most people think herpes is only a minor skin irritation of which herpes has long term effects on health and passes through the bloodstream and can be easily contracted through sexual intercourse. I knew I had herpes from the first day I started feeling itchy in my pubic area and the pain was very unbearable. I couldn't stand it anymore. After 2 years of trying other means to get rid of it, I had to contact Doctor Odunga to help me with a permanent cure. I saw his email and whats-app number from a testimony I read online from a lady who was also helped by him in curing infertility problems, I had faith and contacted him. He assured me of his work and I ordered his herbal medicine. Within 5 days, I didn't feel any pain anymore and within 2 weeks, my skin was all cleared and smooth. I am very grateful to you sir and I write this testimony as others have done to bring those having faith to you sir. If you have herpes or other similar disease and you want it cured, kindly contact Doctor Odunga, Whats-App (wa.me/+2348167159012) OR Email [email protected]
